Andrew Berger (昌也山下, Masaya Yamashita), is a fictional character who made his first appearance in Soulcalibur II and has returned for Soulcalibur III and Soulcalibur IV as well as Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny.

[edit] Chained Kozuka
In Soulcalibur II, Andrew managed to escape with one of Maxi's weapons, the Chained Kozuka. Jessie brought the Chained Kozuka to life by pitting it with Kagekiri and the Dvapara-Yuga in Soulcalibur IV. Two short swords, each with a short blade and long hilt, connected with thread. It was originally conceived by a street performer as a prop for use in acrobatics. It definitely lacks the sturdiness of a real weapon.

Andrew was the third oldest of five boys and girls. He was very good at sports and gets good grades. When Andrew was 11, he became friends with Jessie Parnell, a tomboy who had knowledge of the U.S presidents, U.S States and Capitals and she had been diagnosed with Asperger's Autism ever since she was two.
Two years later, Andrew somehow traveled back to 1591 alone. He could not fend for himself. He noticed a man wielding a nunchaku.
While he looked away, Andrew snatched his weapon, and made a run for it. He did not realize the man was Jessie's biological father, Maxi.
Andrew fought Maxi in a battle, and lost. Maxi almost threw the unconscious Andrew in the sea in India, until he was stopped by Jessie.
When Andrew awoke, he found himself in his home in Cañon City surrounded by all of his family.
A few days later, he got a call from a friend, saying that Jessie set out for revenge.
Andrew wanted to fight alongside Jessie, because he knew that she was angry with Maxi.
So, at midnight, Andrew used the fragment of Dvapara-Yuga he stole from an ally, and set out to fight alongside his best friend.

After defeating Maxi and destroying Soul Edge, Andrew and Jessie went back to their time era. When Andrew went to school a few days later, he and Jessie were greeted back with smiles. For showing bravery, a partner project they were supposed to work on, they both got an A+ on their project. But the craving of vengeance still continues for Andrew and Jessie. They will keep trying to beat up Maxi, until he mended his ways.

Andrew returns to Cañon City, but during his return, he is corrupted by the power of Soul Edge. His ending description clearly states; "He seeks vengeance for his wounded body. He seeks the spirit sword, to calm a friend."
After travel partnering with Jessie for two weeks, Andrew finally defeated Maxi at the Ostrheinsburg Chapel in Germany. Upon his return, he and Jessie got a good grade in Social Studies. His friends were still worried about him though, for he still had scars on his arms from fighting Maxi. He learned Maxi was still alive.
"That asshole is still alive? What a pain." Andrew cursed to himself.
He was angry at the fact that Maxi was still alive.
Andrew got a hold of Jessie on the phone, and told her about this.
Jessie set out again. She knew what must be done.
Andrew's family prohibited him from going out again. But he disobeyed, and set out.
Andrew would finally get revenge. He knew what he was doing.

Andrew gets ready to grab Soul Edge, until Jessie stops him, telling him not to grab Soul Edge.

Andrew obeys Jessie, and destroys Soul Edge. The screen fades to 2009, where Jessie and Andrew talk about what to do next. Isabelle and Morgan walk over and tell them that Neiko and Kara are going to meet them at Dairy Queen, and all 6 head to the movies. Jessie and Andrew accept the offer. Jessie says next "I don't have any plans, my dad's at work, my sister moved, so sure, I'll go with you guys." Andrew laughs as stupid music plays.

Andrew grabs the hilt of Soul Edge and has the evil power coursing through his veins. In 2009, Andrew is confronted by the 6th grade math teacher. Andrew is angry and kills him. Andrew vows that anyone who made fun of his evil power will die. He is seen by Jessie.
Jessie watches as Andrew turns into Nightmare and kills an innocent sixth grader.
When Andrew returned to Cañon City, he went home, but his parents were angry with him for disobeying them. Andrew was even grounded for a week!
A week later, while at football practice, he suddenly fainted. Neiko consulted the coach, and Jessie picked him up.
Andrew, awoke to see Jessie on his side. Jessie told him that he was a host of Soul Edge.
Andrew was worried what would come over him and the friendship with Jessie.
He also heard a rumor from Isabelle, that Taki, a ninja, along with Maxi, are claiming to be Jessie's biological parents. So Andrew, along with Jessie, set out to investigate this rumor. Was it true or not? He and Jessie had to find out.

Andrew grabs Soul Edge. as Soul Edge consumes Andrew, Soul Edge says to Andrew, "If you thought Jessie was that man's daughter, you are correct." Andrew notices Maxi waking up from unconsciousness, grabbing the hilt of Soul Edge. Jessie walks up to Andrew, saying "People like you, they should not be endangered, that's why Father wanted to protect me, and why I wanted to protect you." Jessie, Andrew, Taki, and Maxi walk off, along with Kilik and Xianghua. His text only epilogue states; Andrew joined his friends, and became a royal guard for Jessie, Princess of Shuri.

- Andrew's joke weapon, Football Player, debuted with him in Soulcalibur II, and returned for Soulcalibur IV.
- Andrew, at 5'7" is the same height as Taki, the third tallest male character, to Maxi.
- In Jessie's story mode, stage four, she fights Andrew, who now wears black clothing, and has Dark Brown hair. she also fights Taki and Maxi, who both wear blue.
