Soul Calibur.

Soul Calibur (a reference to Excalibur) is the protagonist, which has become the standard moniker for games in the Soul series since its introduction. It was created by Algol who once wielded Soul Edge and lost his son because of the demonic sword, and vowed to create a holy sword from the purified shards of Soul Edge that would oppose the demon sword, being its equal in strength and opposite in intent. Soul Calibur is commonly referred to as the "spirit sword" or "holy sword", and as such, restores the health of the user, along with numerous other beneficial effects, if a chosen weapon in the games. It's voice sound like a woman.

[edit] History

Algol enlisted the help of the greatest sage in the land, who used purified fragments of the cursed sword to forge Soul Calibur at the cost of his own life. The chosen guardians lived in seclusion, passing the sword from generation to generation in secret.

Soul Calibur finally appeared, in disguise, as one of the Ling-Sheng Su Temple treasures, a sword called Krita-Yuga. The other treasures, Kali-Yuga and Dvapara-Yuga, are linked to the holy sword. Kali-Yuga, a holy staff, is capable of absorbing different energies in order to strengthen Soul Calibur. Dvapara-Yuga, the holy mirror of the Ling-Sheng Su Temple, is used to help keep the purity of Soul Calibur intact and has the power of purifying the corruption of Soul Edge.

Krita-Yuga had been stolen from the temple by one of the monks, Kong Xiuqiang, and handed to his lover Chai Xiangfei, the mother of Chai Xianghua. She will inherit the battered sword, unaware of its original form. Eventually she, alongside Kilik, fought with Nightmare at Osthreinsburg Castle, and used the holy blade to shatter Soul Edge. However, Inferno, the evil will of the blade, took Soul Calibur and plunged with it into an abyss of its own making. Surrounded and consumed with the ambience of evil from the Soul Edge and Inferno's flames, the Soul Calibur eventually succumbs to the darkness and bonds with Inferno, Soul Edge.

As a sword in Nightmare's possession, it was struck down by Raphael Sorel thus freeing its host, Siegfried, from the darkness, and revealing what was trapped inside. Siegfried uses Soul Calibur to silence Soul Edge.

[edit] Variations

In Soulcalibur II, "Evil Soul Calibur" can be wielded by Inferno and Xianghua, but in canon, neither of the two actually wield it, as it was bonded inside Inferno/Soul Edge. While it is unknown if Evil Soul Calibur has a canon role in the series' storyline, the weapon has a role in the Weapon Master mode, in which the main character would take the tainted Soul Calibur and go to a place to purify it in order to use it to fight against Soul Edge.
